![]() As an organization, we have grown and have weathered many crises together as a family; and we have surely achieved what we intended to do in 1994. We had a unique opportunity to create a positive impact on Atlanta's cultural scene. Our goal has been for our Krewe to embody the very definition of Mardi Gras for our region. After all, we represent an historic segment of the American societal palette: born from a unique perspective and shaped by the experiences of our own struggle for physical survival and for our cultural identity. In defining our identity, we shape our future by honoring our past.
The theme for our Tenth Bal Masqué reflected upon our earliest roots in this country: the establishment of the Louisiana Colony. Formed during the reign of King Louis XIV of France, better known as the Sun King, this vast area stretched from the Gulf of Mexico, to Canada, and to the Pacific Northwest. The capital was moved from Biloxi to a new city in a crescent bend of the Mississippi River … a city named for the second most important man in France, the Duc d' Orleans. Our tableau vignettes detailed the lives of historical figures who helped shape the destiny of La Louisiane: important men and women whose names
were given to parishes all across the state.
Thank you for your continued support of our Louisiana heritage and our centuries-old Mardi Gras traditions. It was our pleasure to host both repeat guests and first-time visitors, as our masquerade ball got underway. Please listen carefully and imagine a world of Kings and Empires long-vanished, as you here revisit the glittering Court of Versailles: Le Royaume du Soleil!
