The Mystick Krewe des Acadiens was founded on March 13, 1994, by a group of five people, each of whom had formerly been a member of other Krewes, and two of whom had been former Captains. A few weeks prior to our founding date, the founding members canvassed other like-minded individuals who appreciated the same ideals of having a social club that centered around our Cajun/Creole French heritage and who wanted to stage an elaborate Bal Masqué near Mardi Gras time. Hundreds of phone calls went out and we soon had reserved a site for our Ball: the magnificent Egyptian Ballroom and Grand Salon within Atlanta's Fabulous Fox Theatre.
Our goals were simply to stage the finest Mardi Gras Ball in the metropolitan area, hosted by members of an authentic Krewe, not by people who were playing around with themed parties. We initiated new members, researched our own collective past experiences, generated ideas, chose a theme and started spreading the word to our friends and families about our upcoming Ball. Our first Ball almost sold out! We were close, but each successive Ball has been a sellout since then. Our membership has changed a bit over the years, but we still remain committed to the advancement of our Louisiana French heritage and perpetuation of our customs, especially as they relate to the celebration of Mardi Gras and the entire Carnival season.
